Salt Duty Act and the salt monopoly

The salt monopoly was administered through the Northern India Salt Revenue Department; duty was levied on salt manufactured or imported, and from the abolition of the inland customs line (1879-80) on salt sources in Northern India. The Statistical Abstract records the duty per maund by presidency.
