Report of the Indian States Enquiry Committee (Financial), 1932 (Cmd. 4103)
The committee of enquiry appointed in the light of the Third Report of the Federal Structure Committee examined the specific financial problems arising from the States' position: cash contributions, ceded territories, miscellaneous contributions, salt, sea customs and ports, and miscellaneous immunities. It took evidence across 8,476 miles by rail, 1,704 by road and 411 by sea and received memoranda from the States; it classified 215 States plus 327 Estates/Jagirs with a population of 81,310,845 (Census 1931, excluding Burma)
